I’ve been harping on the US healthcare system lately…mostly because, as a business owner who pays for health insurance for my folks I feel like the system is so unfair and inefficient it grates on me. But that is another issue, one I need to let go. In fact, the problem is not entirely the fault of the system, its the end result of the choices of foods/nutrients that Americans put into their mouths. So, it really is an end user problem – helped greatly by packaged food companies with questionable food labeling practices.
Lately I decided to try something different and eliminated a lot of foods I had been ingesting such as, milk chocolate, red meat, alcohol, caffeine and sugar. The first few weeks were pretty tough, but now I feel great and no-longer have any urge to eat or drink any of these foods. Its been a great experiment (lost 15 pounds without trying) and I hope to continue for at least one year then reevaluate how I feel.
I couple of days ago I came across this video, nothing really new, but wow! I almost had a bowl of Cheerios this morning for breakfast which is rare for me, then I looked at the box and for one serving of Cheerios it contains three grams of Sugar! The box made it look almost healthy – not.
Harley Davidson is going to produce electric motorcycles? Good for Harley, seriously…I for one will not miss the loud obnixious Harley engines (same could be said for Japanese sport bikes – depends on your perspecitve) but at the same time its hard for me to envision your typical Harley rider wanting this bike. But hey, its green and looks like a nice bike. Might get me to look at buying a Harley maybe.
“If Harley really is going to make this thing, it could be ground-breaking in more ways than one. It might be the first electric bike that mainstream riders will actually take very seriously, and it could broaden Harley’s appeal. A double win? Let’s hope so.”
I have “been told” by American physicians that the US healthcare system is the “best in the world!” It’s not, it is the most expensive (and profitable) health care system in the world.
“The United States health care system is the most expensive in the world, but this report and prior editions consistently show the U.S. underperforms relative to other countries on most dimensions of performance.”
With powerful MRI machines it has been fascinating to see the cause and effects of usually substances (alcohol, plant drugs, pharmacy drugs, caffeine, others) on the physiology of the human brain. What I love about this MRI research is that it shows real changes to human brains without foreign substances.
This being the busy mid-season, I’m either at work or at the track most days leaving very little time to ride on the street. And when I have had a chance to commute on a bike to work, I’ve not been in the mood to ride a sport bike. So…to change things up a bit I have started to ride my little 250cc, 17hp Yamaha dual dirt and street bike to work and for errands. Its strange with such narrow-knobby tires, small motor and limited brakes this bike is still incredibly fun and fast to ride. Faster than any car on the road under 50 miles per hour. Likely due to how light it is, feels like a mountain bike with an engine. And best of all it gets 73 miles per gallon pretty much all the time. Goes to show, its not always the expensive things that are the best values or the most fun.
For kicks, I painted the bike black to make it look like a Harley kind of. With a small motor it can get loud at high revolutions so I would rather folks think its a loud obnoxious Harley than a Japanese dirt bike.
