Gas land

About eight years ago I stumbled across an article on Peak Oil, which frankly rattled my cage….Since then our energy policy or lack-of energy policy has become a greater focus of the US government which I have been happy about. Recently new mega ‘natural gas reserves’ have been found that can serve as a time bridge until we can engineer the ultimate clean and safe energy supply for our planet. So, my spirits have been lifted from the dystopia of Peak Oil and our short term future looks sustainable again.

Natural gas, though not by any stretch a great solution will provide us the time we need to change our ways. On Tuesday it was great to see T. Boone Pickens on Jon Stewart and I was happy to see him championing this effort. Last night I stumbled across this movie on HBO. It’s shocking to say the least. I woke up early this morning thinking about it and feeling lucky the the water from my well is not contaminated and the air I breath every day is not filled with ‘proprietary’ chemicals – things I have long taken for granted.

Still, I am a supporter of natural gas, but I think it’s clear we need to stop and study our current drilling methods before we contaminate our living habitat for generations to come.
